Dental specialty involved with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the dental pulp. A root canal repairs and saves a badly decayed or infected tooth. This procedure consists of removing the nerve and pulp, cleaning the inside of the tooth and sealing it. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and abscesses may form. Endodontically treated teeth require a crown in order to restore the natural functionality and longevity of the tooth.
