What follows is a list of various celebs whose closeups from years ago don’t seem to match their closeups of today—that’s a good thing. From veneers to implants—the dental kind)—we’ll take a look at these stars’ now-pearly whites and give you a rundown of what work they likely had done.
10. Jim Carrey
The Canadian funny man also had a funny shape to his left front tooth, giving his mouth an almost gap-tooth look. Apparently, morphing from comedy to more serious roles also requires a more serious mouth. Carrey makeover is simple, and impeccable—porcelain veneers with a natural tone that look clean but not too white.
9. Jennifer Garner
You have to go back in time—that’s a pun referencing her latest film ‘The Adam Project’—but young Jennifer had a cute smile that showed a healthy set of teeth with a significant amount of gum. In addition to porcelain veneers, Ms. Garner likely has some gum contouring surgery, too. All of it has made hers a red carpet smile for sure.
8. Hillary Duff
Reportedly (aka we don’t know it’s just what’s being said in the media) is that the antibiotics the young actress was taking at one point contributed to stained teeth. Some photos also show a Jim-Carrey-like misshapen front tooth, too. Duff’s smile makeover is stunning and her veneers also do what Carrey’s did, offer a not-too-white natural appearance.
7. Zac Efron
God makes no one perfect, even though you thought He may have let one go by when it came to Zac Efron. But early teen photos of Efron show a David Letterman style gap in his front teeth that was solved with, what some guess are, Zirconia dental veneers. Meanwhile, Zac’s abs are and always have been perfection.
6. George Clooney
When the modern-day Carey Grant’s dark bags under his eyes suddenly vanished and made him look better as he aged, people focused on his eyes. But take a look at photos from around that time and notice how yellow-beige Clooney’s teeth are too. Most likely, a good set of dental crowns solved that dilemma. What’s next for Clooney’s aging process is up in the air.
5. Kirsten Dunst
Ironically—or perhaps not—Kirsten Dunst’s film career took off when the young actress, who had naturally large canines—starred in ‘Interview with the Vampire.’ To match the size of those sharp teeth, her dentist likely used porcelain veneers as needed. Full disclosure: No canines were harmed in her latest film ‘Power of the Dog.’
4. Crtistiano Renaldo
The Portuguese soccer star is so handsome even the gap in his front teeth had been described as “distinctive”—hot people’s version of “odd.” Pictures today show a perfectly aligned set of teeth but a “distinctive” amount of gum line that could use more work. Now if only he could afford it.
3. Morgan Freeman
What a difference an Oscar makes … One of the world’s greatest actors and the world’s greatest narrator are one in the same. Likewise for the spaces between Morgan Freeman’s teeth these days, too. It’s likely he needed more than veneers to set things straight. “The Shawshank Redemption” actor probably got implants to set his smile free.
2. Katie Holmes
Why did Tom Cruise jump up and down on Oprah’s couch to pronounce his love? Maybe it was Katie’s oral improvement. One never knows. The bottom line is she didn’t use her teeth when it came to giving the camera a fabulous movie-star smile. But now she can. Canine gaps? Aligned. Discoloration? Adjusted. Divorce to Tom? Settled.
1. Tom Cruise
If you can find an old image of young Tom you’ll probably think the makeup department had something to do with making him not look like the Cruise we know today. Tom Cruise’s teeth, it’s safe to say, had an extreme makeover involving veneers and crowns due to how uneven his original teeth were. Tom Cruise’s middle tooth may have been extracted, and an implant and crown put in its place.
