Stay healthy with these 5 steps to brushing:
1. Hold your brush at a 45 degree angle at the gum line, moving the brush slightly while working your way around the mouth. Don’t forget the chewing surfaces of teeth.
2. Brush in the right direction- AWAY from your gums. Brushing toward them will eventually push your gum tissue back, causing root exposure and sensitivity.
3. Know your blind spots- Right-handers have diffuculty cleaning the right as left-handers do the left. Spend time on your weak side (even though you have that awkward wrist turn.)
4. Use a GENTLE grip- Like you’re holding a pen, NOT a tennis racket!!
5. Nuke your brush! Put your manual toothbrush in a cup of clean water. Keep it bug-free by putting it in the microwave. 650-watt microwave for 60 seconds, 1,100 watts- 35 seconds.
