It’s that time of year when the weather is warming up and everyone is looking forward to summer and looking their best. This is a great time of year to visit the dentist, get a cleaning and dental exam, and talk to your dentist about teeth whitening if you want to brighten your smile for summer. However, if you have false teeth, you may be wondering if you can whiten your teeth at all.
Fake teeth can come in the form of dentures, partials, crowns, veneers or other types of composite bonds. While whitening toothpastes, gels and treatments can work wonders on natural teeth, they don’t do the job for false teeth. In fact, whitening products can actually damage false teeth and damage your gums.
If you are concerned about the whiteness of your teeth before getting any form of false teeth, you can talk to your dentist about professionally whitening your teeth prior to receiving the false teeth so that the false teeth can be matched to a newly brightened smile. Alternatively, practicing excellent oral hygiene will prevent discoloration of false teeth. Remember to brush twice a day and floss regularly in order to keep false teeth clean and white.
If false teeth are badly discolored, talk to your dentist about replacing the false teeth.
